Most of us don’t have a problem helping someone.  Our struggle with helping people comes when those we help seem unable to help themselves.  Derek and Matt talk about the frustrations that come with lending a helping hand. We are all inconsistent at many things.  Doesn’t it seem like we can find all the inconsistencies in other people, but fail to see those same inconsistencies in us?  Laying aside our agendas for the people we are trying to help could be the beginning of a beautiful thing.  Remember that God is the one we trust to change the lives of the people we come in contact with.  Stop trying to change everybody and just let Jesus be Jesus in you!

What is the church? In order for Matt and I to answer this question, we must cross some boundaries.  The main boundary we cross in these conversations is the idea of church being a place to go.  In our frustrations with organized religion, we might seem a bit harsh toward the Sunday morning get together.  We do not in any way want to disrespect Catawba Baptist, or Olivet Baptist.  The truth is, there is something far greater to CHURCH life than what we see on Sunday.  It is not about going to a place, or experiencing an event.  It is about realizing that the God of all creation inhabits His people.  Our goal is to get you thinking outside the boundaries that have been set up for hundreds of years.  We want you to look past the building, the denomination, and even the pastor, so you can see the real ONE!

We do not hate the Southern Baptist denomination.  We both serve as pastors for this denomination, but do not agree with the direction it is going.  You might call us heretics, emergent, or even idiots, but our words are from the heart.  We have lived on the other side of freedom and it stunk!  Now we know what freedom taste like and we’re never going back!  We want people to get a taste of that freedom so their confidence won’t rest in a building or a person, but in JESUS.

It is not our goal to see which one can grow the biggest building with the most people.  It is not our goal to see how many people we can get to recite a prayer and then dip them in a baptistery.  Our goal is simple.  We want the truth of who Jesus is to be heard and seen!  Let’s see the blessings of God given to us through Jesus Christ!

How important is organization and structure when it comes to seeing God’s Power?  Today Derek and Matt discuss the challenges we face every Sunday morning.  We think everything must be done a certain way and with great organization.  If these elements don’t come together then we think God can’t work.  If they do come together then we’re expecting God to work.  Does God really need a building, choir, worship songs, etc… to change a life?
